Varios alcaldes de los municipios del departamento de Santa Bárbara impulsan el turismo como una alternativa para mejorar la economía de sus comunidades, aprovechando los recursos naturales de esta región como ser ríos y bosques.

Zacapa Santa Bárbara es un municipio ubicado en la parte sur del departamento, a tan solo dos horas de la capital Tegucigalpa y hora y media de San Pedro Sula y ofrece varias opciones turísticas para los visitantes.

Entre los lugares turísticos mas conocidos están, las aguas termales de la Azacualpa, balneario el Cacao en la aldea La Boquita, así como las riveras del rio Zacapa, ubicado a tan solo tres minutos del casco urbano, además de poder disfrutar de lo atractivo que es este municipio.

En cuanto a hoteles están disponibles dos en el municipio y algunas cabañas de campo en aldeas cercanas. Además de poderse hospedar en hoteles de la ciudad de Santa Bárbara que está ubicada a tan solo  quince kilómetros de este municipio y  otra opción disponible son los hoteles ubicados en el Lago de Yojoa.

En servicio de alimentación dentro del municipio se encuentran pequeños establecimientos que se dedican a la venta de comida los cuales ofrecen bocadillos y comidas típicas de la comunidad y si prefiere puede visitar los restaurantes ubicados en el Lago de Yojoa.

Zacapa Santa Bárbara cuenta con buen servicio de transporte durante el día a todas las ciudades cercanas, dentro del casco urbano ofrece el servicio de mototaxi, que lo pueden transportar a cualquier lugar y centros turísticos del municipio a bajo costo.

Consultados algunos vecinos de Zacapa manifestaron que se están organizando grupos de trabajo para impulsar el turismo de la región. En temporadas de vacaciones el municipio ha recibido hasta la cantidad de diez mil personas siendo el rio Zacapa el mas concurrido por los visitantes.

Zacapa Santa Bárbara se ha convertido en un municipio con muchas opciones turísticas que da facilidad debido a la cercanía de la cabecera departamental y el bajo costo de entradas a centros turísticos, hoteles y alimentación, además de disfrutar de la hospitalidad de sus habitantes.
