Alrededor de una hora duraron los eventos fúnebres antes de su entierro en la que familiares dedicaron unas palabras al exmandatario, miembros de la Guardia de Honor entregaron la bandera de Honduras a la esposa del ex dignatario, Norma Regina Gaborit, lo que equivale cuando el país devuelve los colores de la patria a una persona que ostentó una investidura como la presidencia de la república u otro cargo importante dentro del gobierno.
El ataúd donde descansa el cuerpo de Rafael Callejas fue llevado a su tumba por personal del cementerio que estaban protegidos con equipos de bioseguridad como parte de los protocolos sanitarios en estos momentos de pandemia, además que los participantes también se protegieron y realizaron las medidas de prevención.
El país se encuentra en medio de una emergencia sanitaria por el COVID-19. Se ha restringido la circulación en las calles como la aglomeración de más de 50 personas, lo que provocó fuera una ceremonia fúnebre casi privada, donde por primera vez se seleccionó quienes podían asistir a un funeral.
El cuerpo del exmandatario hondureño salió en horas de la mañana desde la Fuerza Aérea de Honduras (FAH), lugar donde permanecía su cuerpo desde el jueves, recorriendo todo el Anillo Periférico siendo escoltado por agentes de la Policía Nacional con rumbo hacia su última morada.
