26 días después de la depresión tropical Eta, vecinos de la aldea El Zapote Gualala, no logran superar los daños emocionales dejados, al ver como los aludes de tierra dejaba soterradas sus viviendas y fincas, las cuales eran el patrimonio de estas familias.
150 familias vivieron momentos de terror y pánico, la noche del miércoles cuatro y la madrugada del cinco de noviembre, al escuchar como las montañas de su comunidad se venían abajo y arrollaba todo a su paso, viviendas, plantas, animales y las plantaciones de café.
Eran las 9:00 de la noche del día cuatro cuando todo empezó, vecinos narran que las lluvias eran constantes y fuertes, el agua empezó a salir de todas partes y a esa hora empezaron a ceder las montañas que rodean la comunidad.
Según Antonio Teruel dirigente comunal, lo más difícil fue la madrugada del día jueves cinco de noviembre, se escuchó un estruendo como que algo gigantesco se había derrumbado, en medio de la oscuridad solo podían escuchar, ya que no había servicio de energía eléctrica.
Varios vecinos con foco en mano corrieron en auxilio de las familias afectadas, Teruel manifiesta que se escuchaban gritos pidiendo auxilio, niños llorando y mujeres gritando, mientras seguía lloviendo cada vez más fuertes y las montañas seguían cediendo.
Al día siguiente al amanecer lo que los estos vecinos miraron, no se podría describir, montañas enteras se habían venido abajo y las casas de muchas familias estaban destruidas bajo el lodo, piedras y árboles, que fueron arrastrados por los aludes de tierra.
En total son unas 100 familias afectadas, 22 casas dañadas y unas ocho destruidas, además de varias manzanas de cultivo de café, las cuales fueron destruidas en sus totalidades, y las pérdidas son millonarias, quedando estas familias en la calle y algunos de ellos hasta sin su vivienda.
Muchos productores de café manifestaron su preocupación, debido a la pérdida de sus fincas, ya que estos tienen deudas con los bancos y ahora que perdieron todo no podrán pagar a estos, por lo que hicieron un llamado al gobierno que le pueda ayudar.
Otros vecinos que perdieron sus viviendas, expresaron que no saben que decisión tomar, ya que no tienen donde vivir ni para donde ir a buscar refugio mientras logran conseguir la forma de volver a construir otra vivienda.
Las familias dignificadas fueron albergadas en el Kínder, iglesia, escuela y centro comunal de la comunidad, donde aún permanecen a espera de `poder reconstruir sus viviendas dañadas, y construir nuevas viviendas las personas que las perdieron.
La comunidad del Zapote, está ubicado en la parte alta de la montaña de Santa Bárbara, a unos 40 kilómetros de la cabecera municipal y a unos 50 kilómetros de la ciudad de Santa Bárbara, la mayoría de familias se dedican al cultivo del café y granos básicos como maíz y frijoles.
