Honduras. Esta mañana partió hacia Atlanta, Georgia, Estados Unidos, el avión presidencial que pertenece a la Fuerza Aérea Honduras para repatriar los restos mortales del expresidente Rafael Leonardo Callejas quien falleció el sábado en esa ciudad.
Los restos mortales del exgobernante hondureño Rafael Leonardo Callejas Romero (1990-1994), estarán llegando al país en horas de la tarde, según el itinerario y el plan de vuelo de la aeronave presidencial que trasladara el cuerpo del exgobernante, en medio de miles de comentarios en redes sociales de los hondureños que cuestionan la acción.
El gobierno realizará los honores debidos a Callejas por su investidura de exmandatario, según se conoció, Callejas falleció el sábado en horas de la mañana en un hospital de Atlanta, Georgia, tras sufrir un infarto, después de estar a espera de una sentencia por una corte de Estados Unidos, país donde se detectó leucemia meses atrás.
El exgobernante fue uno de los máximos líderes y populares que ha tenido el Partido Nacional, fundado el 27 de febrero de 1902, Callejas fue el tercer presidente electo de manera consecutiva desde que Honduras retornó a la democracia en 1980, cuando se instaló una Asamblea Nacional Constituyente que convocó a elecciones generales en noviembre de 1981, participando por dos ocasiones como candidato a la presidencia, siendo en la segunda el ganador.
También fue ministro durante los regímenes militares de Juan Alberto Melgar Castro y Policarpo Paz García, en los años 1970 e inicios de la década de 1980, fue dirigente nacionalista durante su juventud, donde ocupo varios cargos por muchos años.
